In May 2021, the BC Society of Transition Houses published their “Policy Brief on Canada’s National Occupancy Standards and the Right to Housing-The Getting Home Project.” This brief seeks to demonstrate that changes can be made to the National Occupancy Standards (NOS) and the operational policies surrounding it to align with the federal legislation on the right to housing. This would enable families to secure stable, affordable and safe housing.
