In April 2023, BC’s Representative for Children and Youth published “Missing: Why are children disappearing from B.C.’s child welfare system?” The report aims to begin exploring the question of why so many children and youth in care across B.C. become lost, go missing, or disappear from care. Recommendations focus on specific actions the Ministry of Children and Family Development can take to improve its policies and practices in this context, and also on addressing all child-serving systems, communities, and individuals to address this systemic problem.
