The CCPA’s Alternative Federal Budget recommends increasing the CPP replacement rate from 33.5 per cent to 40 per cent of earnings and extending the child-rearing and disability dropout provisions to the entire CPP benefit. This change would mostly help future seniors. For seniors today, the federal government could target the lowest-income seniors with an increase in the GIS top-up for both single seniors and couples.
